HEPATITIS B

What is hepatitis b?

It is simply an infection of the liver. As simple as those sounds, it’s quite dangerous. The liver is inflamed in the process of an attack by hepatitis B virus. It is worthy of note that a lot of substances whether endogenous (produced by the body) or exogenous (produced from substances from outside the body) pass through the liver for detoxification before excretion by excretory organs or uptake by the blood. This is one of the dangers of hepatitis B. So, if the liver which receives the highest quantity of blood in the body is inflamed, there will be no detoxification and one can only but imagine the quantity of toxins and poisons the body would accumulate and the disastrous effects that would have on the entire body system. Another danger of this is that the liver has the ability to function even when 80% of its cells are infected. So, it is difficult to detect at early stage.

Causes of hepatitis b

Like I mentioned earlier, it is gotten from its virus. But its virus has to be gotten from somewhere, right? So, some of the ways it can be transmitted from an infected person to an uninfected person are from contaminated food or water, mother to child during childbirth, sexual contact, contact with open wound, contaminated sharp objects like syringes, needles or razor, even through contaminated toothbrush. Basically, it is transmitted through contaminated fluid contact.

  Preventive measures

To prevent the spread of this deadly virus, we just need to be more careful with the things around us. It would be quite safe for us to avoid meat and fishes that are not properly cooked or stored. Also, we should be mindful of our environments. The things we touch and the things we make use of. Avoid sharing personal things like toothbrush or razor. We also need to be conscious of the hospitals and health centers we visit. Eat fresh foods especially fruits and vegetables. Do not eat foods that will overwork your liver. Most importantly, go for medical check once in a while to ascertain the health and functioning of your liver.
